PAST AND PRESENTIn Akureyri, there is plenty of history to explore. You will discover many interesting things strolling at a leisurely pace around town as we weave our way between the past and the present. We begin by showing you what the town centre has to offer before making our way up the hill (50 m elevation) and telling you the story of Akureyri. The walk takes us to the Botanical Garden and after that we will visit a home where you will experience Icelandic culture and hospitality. This walk is 2 km long and with the visit it takes approximately 2-3 hours.
HISTORY LANEWe will walk through the town centre on our way to the oldest part of Akureyri. This is a peaceful and attractive part of town, rich with houses from the middle of the 19th century, each with its own history. In the early days of Akureyri this was the town’s centre. We walk through the quiet streets, tell you stories, have a look at lovely gardens and pass by museums. At the end of the walk, we visit a home where you will experience Icelandic culture and hospitality. This walk is 3 km long and with the visit it takes approximately 2-3 hours. This is a level ground walk without any hills.
