Getting to and Around West Iceland

West Iceland is easy to reach from Reykjavík. The drive to Borgarnes takes about an hour. We recommend renting a car for the flexibility to explore the many attractions at your own pace. Roads are generally well-maintained, but always check conditions before you travel, especially during the winter months.

Day 1: Borgarfjörður attractions - History, hot springs and waterfalls

Start by exploring Borgarnes. It´s home to The Settlement Center, an exhibition that tells the story of the first Vikings to settle in Iceland.

Next, visit three remarkable sites all within close proximity:
