A scenic journey through Iceland’s Eastfjords

The Fjord Way takes travelers through the Eastfjords of Iceland, where winding roads connect small coastal towns, steep mountains, waterfalls and some of the region’s best-known natural attractions. The route can be adapted to the time available, with each fjord and village offering a reason to stop along the way.

Highlights include Borgarfjörður Eystri, where visitors can see puffins at Hafnarhólmi in summer and hike to the turquoise pools and giant boulders of Stórurð. In Seyðisfjörður, the colorful streets, Blue Church and nearby Gufufoss combine nature and culture, while further south Klifbrekkufossar tumble down the mountainside near Mjóifjörður. Neskaupstaður Nature Reserve offers coastal walking trails and views across Norðfjörður.

Along the way, travelers can explore waterfalls, hiking trails, birdlife and communities shaped by their close connection to the sea. With plenty of opportunities to slow down, take detours and explore individual fjords, The Fjord Way is an ideal way to experience the varied landscapes and character of East Iceland.
