Your Knittaker

Meet Þuríður Elísa, 41, who lives just outside Djúpivogur in East Iceland. Her grandmother taught her as a child, but she started knitting for real while expecting, when she joined a knitting group of other mothers-to-be. She loves the creative process, whether it’s “me time” with an audiobook or sharing stories and laughter with other knitters. Her favorite places are Teigarhorn, Hallormsstaður Forest and the island of Flatey in Skjálfandi Bay. Her favorite food is plokkfiskur (Icelandic fish stew), but she’s also brave enough for fermented shark! She recommends East Iceland for its nature, history and energetic locals, and a dip in a local swimming pool. The biggest misconception? That Iceland is a small country!
