Hrunalaug Hot Spring is a truly unique natural hot spring. Historic, intimate and surrounded by the peaceful Icelandic countryside, its three pools invite visitors to slow down, unwind and connect with nature.
The history of Hrunalaug is just as special as its setting. Listed on Iceland’s National Register of Historic Places, Hrunalaug has served the local community for generations. Each of its three pools tells a different part of its story. The oldest, Laundry, dates back to 1890 and was once used for washing clothes and bathing after a long day’s work. The Sheep Pool, built in 1935, was traditionally used by farmers to wash their sheep, while the newest pool, Tourists, was added in 2023.
Together, the three pools offer a rare glimpse into Iceland’s rural heritage, where history and tradition remain an integral part of the experience. A beautiful new changing facility opened in 2026. Built into the hillside behind the pools, its exterior resembles a natural cave. Inside, visitors are welcomed by a warm and cosy atmosphere, with all the essentials for a comfortable visit. The showers are located beneath a glass roof that allows natural daylight to filter into the cave, making showering a special part of the experience.
If you are looking for a bathing experience that will leave you with a truly unique and memorable impression, Hrunalaug Hot Spring is the place to visit.
